What Is Green?

Buying Green means different things to different people.  To some, it is beneficial to the environment, as in green recycling policies. Recycling reduces your waste removal costs & reduces the amount we put into landfills.  To others, it is an entire lifestyle including how they travel, eat, furnish their homes & offices. As defined by Merriam-Webster web dictionary it is tending to preserve environmental quality (as by being recyclable, biodegradable, or nonpolluting).

Why Go Green?

Going Green can:

Reduce Environmental impact • Conserve natural resources •  Improves health & safety •  Reduce energy consumption which saves money•  Decrease products destined for landfills•  Grow new markets •  Save money!!!

Why Companies should go green–WIIFM (what’s in it for me?)

Improving health and safety–In 1989, the EPA determined that chemicals in common household cleaners often disperse fumes three times more likely to cause cancer than other air pollutants. A few these products in your home and office which may contain dangerous chemicals:

• All-purpose cleaner
• Ammonia-based cleaners
• Bleach.

Healthier employees are happier employees which can help keep your overhead down by keeping productivity high while it can help keep health care cost down.
Grow new markets - As more people purchase green products, their cost will continue to drop .  Remember how expensive computers where just a few years ago?

Cost:

Focusing on Greening your office equipment helps your business, the environment & reduces cost.  Reducing energy usage, which also reduces carbon dioxide emissions and your energy bill, is the most effective thing you can do.

Here’s 1 example.  The average PC wastes about half the energy provided to it, according to theClimate Savers Computing Initiative, an industry group dedicated to reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. You may find that some green products have a higher initial purchase price yet the full cost of these products over their useful life (cradle to grave) may be significantly less than disposable or single-use alternatives. Items can be refillable, could be recycled and often repairable instead of needing replacement.
